POSITION DUTIES: The Department of Natural Resources, Forest Service/Western Region, is currently accepting applications for a Forester position located in Allegany County, Maryland. The forester will be stationed in the Allegany County field office in Cumberland, MD. This is a one-year renewable contract (contingent on funding), and supports implementation of the Town Creek/Allegany Special Rivers grant. Duties will include tree buffer plantings, carrying out the county’s backyard buffer program (seedling give-away for riparian homeowners), organizing tree planting maintenance/reinforcement projects, and assisting Cumberland’s and Frostburg’s Shade Tree Commissions and their urban tree planting programs. The deliverables include tree planting plans, Forest Stewardship Plans, and educational programs related to tree planting activities and the Town Creek grant.
A State vehicle will be available for travel to field locations from the office. The position is full-time, 40/hours/week, with occasional weekend or evening obligations. For additional information, contact Dan Hedderick at 301-777-5835/ dhedderick@dnr.state.md.us.
Qualifications:
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Education: A Bachelor of Science degree in forestry from a school of forestry accredited by the Society of American Foresters.
Experience: None
Notes: 1. Candidates may substitute a Master of Science degree approved by the State Board of Foresters for the required Bachelor’s degree.
2. The education requirement is pursuant to Business Occupations and Professions Article, Sections
7-206 and 7-304 of the Annotated Code.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATES:
Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE CLASSIFICATION:
1. Persons appointed to this classification will be subject to assignment in any county of the State.
2. Employees in this classification are subject to call-in and, therefore, are required to submit a telephone number where they can be reached in case of forest fire emergencies.

Salary:
