General Directive: Responsible for inventory collection, data processing, quality controls, and inventory growth for properties managed by Hancock Forest Management-Southern Division (HFMSD). Participates with other members of the Resource Support Team (RST) to provide property information to appraisal contractors and manage the collection, growth and maintenance of accurate forest inventory data. These tasks are to be performed in a team environment involving the appropriate Hancock Forest Management (HFM) and Hancock Timber Resource Group (HTRG) personnel.
Scope:
Management area consists of over 2,700,000 acres of timberland;
Develop and maintain a strong relationship with appropriate HTRG regional personnel, and HFM field office personnel;
Service the continuous information and communication needs of multiple teams based in multiple regions;
Proficient, forest inventory systems, growth and yield, GIS systems, database systems, and microcomputer applications;
Accustomed with managing and servicing contractors and the RFP process;
Familiarity with general forestry operations.
Job Dimensions:
Intricate member of the Resource Support Team;
Reports to - Inventory/Systems Manager, Southern Division;
Engages with contractors, consultants, and cooperatives.
Specific Duties:
Assist in forest inventory maintenance through cruise design, contract management of inventory collection, clean incoming inventory data, process inventory data into the database, and growth and yield for all properties;
Assist with the management of third party audit processes;
Contribute to the team effort to conduct change analysis on property data sets prior to each appraisal season;
Support the deployment and use of resource information, planning, data collection systems, and GIS systems at the regional and area offices with an emphasis on forest inventory activities;
Support the analytical needs of RST activities as required;
Special projects as needed or requested.
Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree in Forestry or equivalent experience.
Must have strong organizational and analytical skills.
Must like working with numbers and data.
Must have proficient technical skills with databases and spreadsheets. Programming skills would be helpful.
Must be team player.
Must be highly motivated and entrepreneurial.
Must have strong verbal communication skills.
