Job Description:

The Pre-Sale Forester is a professional position responsible for sharing timber sale preparation duties on approximately 160,000 acres of Indian Trust timberland that produces approximately 47 million board feet annually. This position acts as the project leader in all phases of timber sale planning, permitting and advertisement. The QDNR is committed to the professional development of team members and opportunities exist within the organization to grow into new, long-term career paths in the natural resources field.

 

Primary Functions:

• Perform reconnaissance on mature timber stands and identify potential harvest units.

• Mark harvest boundaries in accordance with the Quinault Indian Reservation’s Forest Management Plan, including the identification of required Riparian Management Zones, Wetland Management Zones and other protection measures.

• Identify operational requirements for harvesting, including recommended yarding systems, road developments and stream crossings.

• Design and implement timber cruises.

• Perform stumpage appraisals.

• Develops draft contracts, prospectuses, maps, and other timber sale-related documents.

• Communicate management objectives to Trust landowners and Tribal officials, drafts official correspondence.

• Provide input to all forest management activities as a member of the QDNR Interdisciplinary Team.

Qualifications:

• Minimum qualifications include an Associate’s degree with major study in forest management or other related natural resource field, plus two years of related experience.

• A Bachelor’s Degree (BS) in Forest Management or related study and previous experience with harvest layout, timber cruising, and GIS is preferred.

• The successful candidate must be able to pass a federal background check, drug screening, and hold or have the ability to obtain a valid Washington State driver’s license.

• Candidates must have the ability to work outdoors in inclement weather and rugged terrain.

Miscellaneous:

Signing Bonus: $8,500.00

Salary:
$55,000-$69,250
