These positions support the agency mission by providing professional, forward-looking stewardship of our state lands, natural resources, and environment and by providing leadership in creating a sustainable future for the Trusts and all citizens.
The primary duties and responsibilities of this position includes:
Planning and coordinating Timber Sales Action Plan (approximately 15-20 million board feet annually) in accordance with the Policy for Sustainable Forests and State Lands Habitat Conservation Plan.
Overseeing presales layout and production.
Supervision of two Natural Resource Specialists 1’s.
Overseeing timber sales compliance.
Land management responsibilities within the respective unit.
As a member of the District Leadership Team, provide input to the District Manager regarding District processes and production while coordinating with District Engineers, Region Specialists, Product Sales staff, Contract Harvest staff, and external stakeholders.
Position is a region wide resource, although the majority of timber sale preparation work will occur in the south ½ of the region.

Qualifications:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree with major emphasis in natural resource management or related curriculum.
Knowledge of theory, policy, principles and practices of the forestry profession as applied to Northwestern United States.
Timber sales contract preparation and administration experience.
Understanding of current forest management plans, Habitat Conservation Plan, and associated agency policies and procedures.
Knowledge of Forest Practices rules, natural resources law and practices.
Knowledge of cable and ground-based logging systems and forest road construction equipment and use.
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to assign work, and set performance standards and expectations.
Ability to mentor, develop and motivate employees.
This level of knowledge and skill is typically achieved with:
Two years of professional forestry experience; and
Successful completion of six months in a performance review period.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
A Bachelor’s Degree in forest management or silviculture.
Six months of supervisory experience with responsibility for assigning work to other staff, coaching other staff, and evaluating the work product of other staff.
Three years of professional forestry experience.
Knowledge and experience with timber marketing.
Knowledge of employment rules and regulations as they apply to permanent and non-permanent DNR employees.
Ability to use GPS technology and ArcGis software.
Knowledge of forest growth and yield simulators.
