Job Description:

The Wildlife Resources Division, Wildlife Conservation Section (WCS) office in Social Circle announces a 40 hr/week field technician position available for 6 months (April-September). The technician’s primary duties will be aiding WCS Botanists and Technicians with habitat restoration activities related to priority rare and endangered GA plant species. The position is based out of our Social Circle office, 45 minutes from Athens and Atlanta. Housing or carpooling options are available. Travel is state-wide with overnight stays; transportation and field lodging are provided. Field workdays can be >10 hrs. in physically challenging conditions. Start date and end date are flexible but ideally would be from April 1-September 15. Salary is $13.00 / hr.

 

Job Responsibilities

Primary: 1) Assistance with habitat restoration activities, monitoring and sampling in the field related to rare and endangered GA plant species. Secondary: 2) Assist with propagule (seeds, cuttings…) collection of priority species for conservation 3) Assistance to Botanists with coordinating collaborative conservation efforts led by the Georgia Plant Conservation Alliance (GPCA) 4) Organization of rare plant historical data.

Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates with at least one of the following skills will be preferred for the position:

1) Familiarity with the flora of the Southeastern US and basic propagation methodology

2) Experience with basic biological sampling tools and restoration techniques

3) Experience with fieldwork, GPS, and off-road 4-wheel drive vehicle operation

Salary:
$13.00/hour + housing
