Job Description:

Successful candidates will assist fisheries biologists and technicians in collecting fish diversity and water quality data in streams throughout Georgia. Fish population samples are collected using electrofishing and seining techniques. Tasks include, but are not limited to, operating backpack and barge electrofishing equipment, netting fish, assisting with sorting and counting fish samples, preserving fish samples, conducting habitat assessments, entering data into the stream survey database, conducting routine maintenance on equipment and vehicles, assisting with sample site reconnaissance, collecting water samples and analyzing chemical and physical parameters of water quality. Extensive daily and over-night (usually one to three nights per week) travel is required several times per month. Workdays during the sampling season are frequently more than eight hours in duration (10 to 12 hours per day is normal during sampling trips), and are dependent on factors such as driving distance, length of daylight, weather conditions, and workload. Lodging, travel expense reimbursement, sampling gear, and state uniforms are all provided. Individuals with an interest in fisheries management, stream ecology, and/or ichthyology are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications: 1. Applicant must be able to move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
2. Applicant must possess a valid class C driver’s license.
3. Applicant must be at least 18 years of age.

Salary: $10.49/hour plus housing.
