The Departments of Forestry and Biological Sciences in affiliation with the Virginia Water Resources Research Center at Virginia Tech are seeking applicants for a graduate research assistantship position in Stream Restoration and Ecology at the Ph.D. level. An applicant is sought for research assessing restoration of functional and structural attributes of headwater streams disturbed by coal mining in southwestern Virginia. This is part of a collaborative research project involving the Departments of Forestry, Biological Sciences, and Crop and Soil Sciences at Virginia Tech. Applicants for either a Ph.D. degree in the Department of Forestry or in the Department of Biological Sciences, depending on specific research interests, are welcomed. Position is available beginning July 2008.
Research assistantships in the Departments of Forestry and Biological Sciences at Virginia Tech pay excellent annual stipends and include a full tuition waiver.
Minimum qualifications include: an M.S. degree in watershed science, hydrology, stream ecology, restoration ecology, or a related natural resources field; good written and oral communication skills; and willingness to conduct research in the field under a variety of conditions.
