Assistant Professor,
Forest Genetics/Biotechnology
Location: Blacksburg, Virginia
Type of Appointment: Nine-month, tenure-track
Responsibilities: Teaching and research in forest genetics and biotechnology:
• Establish a nationally/internationally-recognized research program using molecular biology, quantitative genetic, genomic, and/or proteomic approaches to study forest trees. Possible areas of emphasis include, but are not limited to, functional genomics of tree physiology, genotype-phenotype association genetics, and biotechnology approaches to biotic and abiotic stress tolerance. The person appointed will be expected to attract and mentor graduate students, acquire extramural research funding, and publish research results in high-quality refereed research journals.
• Teach undergraduate/graduate courses
• Participate in university governance and outreach activities.
Qualifications: Required: Ph.D. with emphasis in woody plant genetics, functional genomics, and/or plant propagation.
Desired: Background and interest in the genetics and management of forest trees. Ability to work with interdisciplinary teams consisting of molecular biologists, physiologists, geneticists, silviculturists, foresters, horticulturists, and others for the purpose of developing high-valued woody plants for diverse sites and uses.
Salary: Commensurate with education and experience
