Job Description: One technician needed to assist graduate student with study of roosting habits of bats in cypress-gum swamps in Georgia. Work lasts from approximately May 13 to Aug 15. Work will include 1) searching hollow trees, buildings, and bridges for bats, 2) mist netting for bats at night, 3) radio-tracking bats during the day, 4) measuring tree characteristics, and 5) conducting acoustic surveys. Work schedule will depend on weather. Applicants must be flexible and willing to work when needed.
Qualifications: Desired skills include ability to identify southeastern trees, mist netting (bats or birds), radio-tracking, orienteering, physical fitness, attention to detail. Training will be provided as needed. Preference given to candidates with field experience and a degree in wildlife or related field. Ability to tolerate mosquitoes, biting flies, ticks, venomous snakes, alligators, and extreme heat and humidity is crucial. Positive attitude required. Applicants with previous rabies vaccinations may receive preference, but vaccinations will be provided if needed. Successful applicant will be responsible for transportation to Athens, Georgia.
