Description of Work

PRIMARY WORK RESPONSIBILITY INVOLVES ASSISTING WITH HABITAT
DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS ON GAME LANDS AS DESIGNATED BY THE WILDLIFE
RESOURCES COMMISSION. A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF WORK WILL CONSIST OF
OPERATING FARM TRACTORS, CRAWLER TRACTORS, AND OTHER HEAVY EQUIPMENT
AND TRUCKS. APPLICANT MUST BE WILLING TO OPERATE THIS TYPE OF
EQUIPMENT. THIS EMPLOYEE PARTICIPATES IN WORK TO ENHANCE PRODUCTION OF
WILDLIFE THROUGH CULTURAL PRACTICES TO RESTORE OR IMPROVE NATIVE
HABITAT. A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF TIME WILL BE INVOLVED WITH PRESCRIBED
BURNING. DUTIES ALSO INCLUDE PARTICIPATION IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF WORK
PLANS, MAINTENANCE OF RECORDS,ASSISTING WITH GAME SURVEYS, AND
GENERAL MAINTENANCE OF EQUIPMENT AND FACILITIES WHILE UNDER THE
DIRECTION OF THE WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT TECHNICIAN III. THIS EMPLOYEE
WILL WORK WITH STAFF BIOLOGISTS AND FORESTERS AS WELL AS CORPORATE AND
PRIVATE LANDOWNERS WHO HAVE PROPERTY IN THE GAME LAND PROGRAM.
APPLICANT MUST HAVE A COMMERCIAL DRIVER LICENSE AND PESTICIDE LICENSE
OR OBTAIN ONE WITHIN SIX MONTHS AFTER EMPLOYMENT. SELECTED APPLICANT
MUST RESIDE OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN TWENTY MILES OF TILLERY,
NC.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE A WORKING KNOWLEDGE OF THE PRACTICAL

KNOWLEDGE OF WILDLIFE HABITATS AND SPECIES REQUIREMENTS, ABILITY TO

Training and Experience Requirements

LARGE COMMERCIAL HIGHWAY VEHICLES WITH TRAILERS, HEAVY EQUIPMENT,
ATVS, FIRE PUMPER UNITS, WEATHER INSTRUMENTS, WATERCRAFT, CHAINSAWS,
WELDER, 2-WAY RADIOS, POWER HAND TOOLS & SHOP TOOLS, AS WELL AS
TRADITIONAL HAND & MECHANICAL TOOLS; ABILITY TO CAPTURE & HANDLE
WILDLIFE INCLUDING THE USE OF EXPLOSIVES, ROCKET NETS & CAPTURE GUNS.

***TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:GRADUATION FROM A 2-YEAR COMMUNITY COLLEGE OR
TECHNICAL SCHOOL WITH AN ASSOCIATE DEGREE IN WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT & 2
YEARS WORK EXPERIENCE IN MANAGEMENT OF WILDLIFE RESOURCES; OR AN
EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF WILDLIFE TRAINING & EXPERIENCE. MANAGEMENT
PREFERS A 2-YEAR DEGREE IN WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT WITH TWO YEARS WORK
EXPERIENCE IN MANAGEMENT OF WILDLIFE RESOURCES; OR A 4-YEAR DEGREE IN
WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT.
