The National Wild Turkey Federation (www.nwtf.org) is seeking an experienced individual for full-time employment as a Regional Wildlife Biologist covering the state of Florida.

Responsibilities:

 Serve as a cooperative wildlife biologist between the FL Division of Forestry (DOF), the FL Fish and Wildlife Commission (FWCC), and the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF).
 Be responsible for all facets of the NWTF’s habitat conservation and wildlife management programs on both a National and State level, in addition to executing a statewide annual work plan.
o These duties will include: identifying and developing opportunities for habitat enhancement projects which benefit wild turkeys and other wildlife on public lands throughout the State
o Identifying opportunities to expand existing FWCC/NWTF Cost-Share habitat projects on DOF lands where potential exists for additional matching project dollars.
o Developing project opportunities for wild turkey habitat enhancement on public lands via the NWTF’s Energy for Wildlife program
o Providing recommendations for improving wildlife/turkey habitat on all State Forest lands and/or WMA’s and provide consultation on comprehensive forest plans
o Identifying opportunities to submit news tips for publication in various NWTF magazines that highlight habitat projects and partnerships.
o Assisting DOF/FWCC staff in identifying and securing additional funding via grants or partners to accomplish habitat work on public lands
o Providing wildlife consultation to DOF’s county foresters as needed and provide them with information on NWTF’s Regional habitat programs
o Educate landowners through field days and workshops, assisting in administering the NWTF’s Hunting Heritage Super Fund program, assist in grant work as needed, and work closely with the FL State Chapter of the NWTF.

Qualifications:

 A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree (M.S. preferred) in wildlife biology or related field
 Possess a demonstrated knowledge of wildlife management, forestry, and ecology.
 Excellent writing and public speaking skills are necessary.
 Experience working with Federal / State agencies, NGO’s, wild turkey or other wildlife research, administering grants, and southeastern ecosystems are a plus.
 Individual will be required to live in FL, and the position will require some overnight travel, most of which will occur in FL.
