Description:Responsible for the planning, coordination and implementation of forest and ecosystem management activities on forest lands at Cecil Commerce Center. Activities include, but are not limited to, both field and office duties associated with forest inventory, preparation of timber sales, prescribed burning, fire suppression assistance, reforestation, ecosystem restoration, exotic species control, timber stand improvement, diagnosis of insect and disease problems, wildlife habitat improvement, employment of Best Management Practices, forest road maintenance and forest recreation and education activities. The incumbent must be capable of working independently as well as cooperatively with a wide variety of public and private interests including the City of Jacksonville, Jacksonville Airport Authority, St. John’s River Water Management District, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and others. This position may be required to perform forestry Inventory analysis (FIA) work, including FIA certification by the U.S. Forest Service and gathering and recording of FIA plot data in the field.

Provides wildfire and emergency response support as directed. Assists in the development of smoke management, wildfire prevention, prescribed fire, pre-suppression burning plans and hazardous fuels mitigation. Assists in the enforcement of Florida’s open burning laws and regulation.

Performs administrative duties including, but not limited to, development and management of annual budgets, preparing service contracts, handling timber sale receipts and receipts form alternative income sources. Maintains records of forest management accomplishments, prepares annual reports and other types of correspondence. Assists with development of annual work plans.

Coordinates and oversees work projects of Forest Rangers assigned to Cecil Commerce Center. This includes use of Forest Rangers in forest management activities and in training Forest Rangers to perform technical forestry activities.

Responsible for the care and maintenance of assigned vehicles, tools and equipment.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Forestry or Forest Resource Management; or Receipt of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Forestry or Forest Resource Management within six (6) months of appointment date.
