Description:This position is primarily responsible for performing timber sales layout work on DNR-managed State lands in Snohomish County. The successful applicant will serve as lead forester in preparation of individual sales, but will also work cooperatively with a team of other foresters to design sales that are economically viable, environmentally sound, and socially responsible. This position may assist other work units with the preparation and administration of silvicultural and timber sales contracts. On a volunteer basis, this position may participate in wildfire suppression. As a manager of State Lands, the successful applicant will have numerous opportunities for technical training, professional development, and possibilities for promotion.

Qualifications: REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of forest management objectives and silviculture. Knowledge of forestry laws and practices. Knowledge of logging systems and design of forest roads. Ability to navigate in the field using maps, compass, aerial photos, and orthophotos. Ability to use computers and software applications. Ability to write professional correspondence and technical documents. DESIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS A Bachelors degree in forestry or natural resource management field which includes coursework in silviculture, forest management, and road engineering. Strong written and oral communication skills. Willingness and ability to work cooperatively with others as a member of a team. Knowledge of the DNR State Lands HCP, Forest Practices rules, and the SEPA process. Knowledge of and experience in timber sales layout, logging, and road building methods. Ability to use ArcGIS and forestry-related software. SPECIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS This is primarily a field position that requires extensive work outdoors in forests of all ages, on difficult terrain, and under adverse weather conditions. Office work is also required. In addition, occasional overnight travel for training is required. This position may require altered schedules for certain projects. Must have valid drivers license, two years driving experience, and ability to drive on primitive forest roads. Must be at least18 years of age at the time of hire.
