Red Oak Ecological, a division of Planners and Engineers Collaborative, Inc. is offering an Ecologist Internship for Summer 2008.

Red Oak Ecological specializes in stream and wetland delineation, Section 404 Clean Water Act permitting, state waters consultation, and stream buffer variances. The internship will involve assisting the Red Oak staff in conducting field delineations, GPS surveying, and map preparation. Additional duties may also include assisting w/ protected species surveys and stream and wetland restoration projects. The intern will gain experience in plant identification, soil classification, GPS surveying, map interpretation, and the use of GIS software.

Qualification:
The internship is available to students and professional in environmental science related fields. Knowledge of plants, soils, and the use of GPS equipment is preferred, but is not necessary, as training will be provided. All candidates must hold a valid drivers license.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions:
The successful candidate must be willing to work outdoors for 8-10 hrs./day in warm weather conditions on variable terrain, as field delineation often requires working in and around thick vegetation, steep slopes, and swampy areas. In addition, the intern must be able to walk with a GPS backpack unit weighing approx. 15 lbs. for extended periods and deal with outdoor elements including rainfall, insects, and hot weather.

Location:
Our office is located in Norcross, Georgia with fieldwork located throughout the greater Atlanta metropolitan area.

One internship is currently available with the potential for future employment opportunity based on job performance. Salary is $10-12/hr. based on knowledge and experience. Candidates must be willing to start immediately and work through August 2008.
