Description:IDFG currently has two Wildlife Technician openings available. One for the Andrus WMA near Cambridge and one in Lewiston, Idaho.

The Wildlife Technician position is used for recruitment and training purposes for the Wildlife Technician, Senior. Upon completion of training (typically about one year), the employee's title and salary will change to a Wildlife Technician, Senior. Salary: $14.81 per hour.

Responsibilities:

* Understand and apply habitat management and restoration practices including seeding, planting, and noxious weed control.
* Maintain fences, roads, dikes, buildings and grounds.
* Learn and apply safe use and maintenance of hand tools, power tools, 4WD vehicles, OHVs, farm equipment and heavy equipment.
* Train and supervise seasonal employees.
* Serve as an IDFG liason to the public and other agencies regarding issues pertaining to IDFG and the WMA.
* Interview hunters to obtain harvest data and survey hunters' opinions.
* Conduct wildlife counts and collect wildlife census data.
* Be physically and mentally able to work and hike in challenging and adverse terrain and weather conditions, including some long work days, over-night stays, and weekend work.

Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications: * Good knowledge of wildlife ecology and habitat requirements and some knowledge of habitat development practices and procedures; OR good knowledge of biology, zoology, botany, conservation biology or closely related discipline. * Experience recording, summarizing or analyzing biological data using a personal computer to manipulate data. * Specialty area requirement: Experience operating and performing minor maintenance and upkeep on commonly used equipment. * Specialty area: Some positions require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or the willingness to obtain one within 60 days of hire. For these positions, applicants must pass a pre-employment controlled substance screening test. Once you obtain your CDL, you are required to participate in the Department's drug/alcohol testing program and comply with all of its provisions. Failure to satisfy any of these requirements will result in a failure to complete your probationary period and termination from employment.
