Wood Procurement Representative

Responsible for ensuring the Gwinn Lumber mill’s quarterly and annual log procurement plan is achieved. Participate as a key member in assisting the mill to achieve its objectives by ensuring the cost, species mix and flow of wood to the mill meets or exceeds the mill’s goals. Promote the use of sound forest management practices on public and private lands. Fiber/Log Procurement and Quality: - Prepare quarterly wood orders and open wood market supplier contracts. - Administer quarterly contracts for volume, species, mix and cost of delivered wood. - Maintain supplier relationships. Plan, negotiate and administer quarterly log supply contracts with suppliers. - Educate wood suppliers on wood quality. Inspect vendor job sites. Ensure all vendors/suppliers meet current insurance requirements. - Cruise timber sale offerings. - Private and public stumpage – negotiate purchase price, manage timber sale preparation, develop timber bid price/strategy and obtain ability to bid. Strong concentration on improving and managing flows off of private lands. - Attend Private timber sale auctions and deliver sealed bids to the appropriate agencies. - Maintain full compliance with Potlatch environmental policies. Supplier relationships: - Communicate with loggers and logging community. - Perform logging site visits. - Negotiate logger supplier pricing. - Ensure vendor Best Management Practices (BMP) training is current. - Support best practices regarding landowners’ and logging practices. Mill relationships: - Assure wood quality meets mill expectations. - Control delivery of species and product to meet sales expectations. - Market reject log materials, off species and mill residuals as needed. - Utilize the Cengea system to meet mill needs. - Represent Potlatch to private and public sectors and organizations. Budgets: - Assist in preparing the annual wood volumes and wood cost mill budgets. - Monitor and prepare monthly and annual wood purchases to ensure the mill budgets are met. - Manage expenses and operations to achieve financial budgets and targets.
